AJS 18 forks

Post by Bob Harpin. »

I wonder if anybody out there can assist me. I was having some problems with the front forks of my 1964 AJS Model 18. I have stripped them down to the component pieces and found that the fork tubes have the surface of a lunar landscape (to be sorted out soon) but as the forks usually went down and not back up again I was wondering if the springs are either worn or the wrong ones. The free length of the springs is 18 1/2" (470mm) give or take 1/8" - is this correct?
Another thing what is the correct O/S diameter for the lower bush and the I/S diameter of the top bush. To finish off what are the correct colours for the large late type AJS badge. The ones I have are totally devoid of any colour?

Thanks
