I bought my first classic brit bike last week
An ajs 500 18 s
I havent got the log book yet
cananyone explain all the numbers
they are as follows
frame: + 0.16.11 M&B ( i thought iwas imagining the M&B, but i cleaned it down with a wire wheel and it's definetly there.I'm not sure about the dots, thet could be just pit marks in the casting.
It also has 69378 stamped down the headstock, which is a different size to + 0.16.11, and appears to be freshly stamped
engine: 51/18 s 17801
gearbox: b156 g2d51
This is an Irish bike with the reg no. of ZL 6606
Any help would be greately appreciated
Thanks
Rae

Frame Identification !!! ???
1951 - the frame number would have been stamped just under the nose of the seat on the right hand side and would not have the suffix M&B. This probably the forging number. Later bikes had the frame number on the headstock as you say. Perhaps you have a later frame, or the number has been restamped for convenience, the under seat one is very hard to see

I found the frame number where you said it would be, it's 69378
