Unknown G80 Oil Union
I'm rebuilding a 1953 G80 - on the left hand crankcase there is an oil union screwed into the crankcase casting at about the 4 Oclock position. I can't find reference to this in the spares catalogue or workshop manual; what's it for?

Thats the crankcase breather or release valve, as it is listed in the parts manual. It comprises 000836 - Body, release valve and 000835 - diaphragm. A union nut and pipe is attached to the body to lead the oil onto your garden path.

Thanks; does the oil pipe attached to the union have any particular length, shape or routing? - or can it be any length and shape such that it squirts the oil onto the garden path rather than the rear wheel?

its only about 4 inches, as the actress said.... and it hangs down to boot.
I always fit a little rubber extension to mine, throws the drips clear of the underneath mostly and helps to keep it a bit clean underneath
