Greetings All
I have a 1964? model 18 AJS Statesman 500cc only 3000 miles since new but has a very noisy gearbox mainly 3rd and 2nd
Are there any suggested bearing mods for this box
I am busy stripping it down
Regards and Thanks

no need for any bearing mods, one of the best gearboxes ever made.
check it out to see whats wrong and put some decent 50 grade oil in it,& maybe some graphite based additive

It sounds like the gears are worn due to running without adequate oil. I don't believe anyone is making those gear ratios that are not the same as Norton Commandos but most other spares are available.
Cheers, Don.

Thanks Guys
I have finished stripping the box and have found that the bush inside the kickstart shaft and the adjacent gear are worn and have overheated.
I assume the previous owner had run it with too little oil in the box.
Where can I get the bushes?
There is also no nut on the mainshaft (with clutch pushrod) at the RHS end where the cable/clutch release mechanism is.
Again where can I get this nut? Looks like 9/16 cycle thread?
My address is 47 Silwood Rd, Rondebosch 7700, Cape Town, South Africa
Thanks and Regards
