After several months I'm finally reassembling my ‘54 G80CS engine which included splitting the cases for new mains and was surprised that the barrel didn't sit home flush straight away as the spigot entered the crankcase. Slackening the top crankcase bolts and some gentle persuasion with a hide mallet with sideways blows to the base flange and the barrel descended fine. Is it usual for this snug fit occurrence?

Re: CS Snug Barrel Spigot
I have needed to slacken the top two c/case bolts in the past to remove a stubborn barrel. Obviously a snug fit is good provided it doesn't hinder the c/case meeting faces.

Re: CS Snug Barrel Spigot
Thanks John that's reassuring to hear. Last time I removed/replaced the barrel the previous owner had applied plenty of Yamabond (or similar) to the crankcase halves obviously causing a looser barrel spigot fit.
