Oil tank i.d. needed

Post by martinbuilt AJS »

Hi.
I'm working on an incomplete '51 m18.
I'm looking at a couple different oil tanks to replace the cobbled BSA tank that came with the bike.
I've found 2 that appear to be the correct shape and have the correct mounting tabs.
One has (4) oil line connections on the bottom, the other has (2).
The tank with the (2) connections also has a slightly longer fill neck.
If you can offer any guesses based on these descriptions, that would be a great help. The illustrations in the parts list are a little generic.

Think a photo may help, are you able to add them?

I'm not aware of any oil tank on a single having (or needing) 4 oil pipe connections on the bottom therefore without seeing what you have I'd say that the one with two pipes and the longer filler neck is the (most) correct one.
If it's of any help here's the tank on my '47 Model 18.

Thanks for the photos, that's identical to the one i found. The other is an ebay item. I can't grab his photos, but might be able to post a link.

I'm no expert but when I asked a similar question regarding the tank I had (which looks very similar to this one) the answer was it's for an early twin with a timed breather (not a single).
