info for model and year of this bike

Post by DickV »

Hi, I am trying to find a parts list or catalogue to view what all should be there. The bike has a motor number of G 80/135276 I think it is a 1966. It's a Matchless. When did the G 80 start making aluminum cylinders because mine is a cast iron one. thanks, Dick V.

It will be a cast iron cylinder as only the comp bikes had alloy barrels. You have a road going shortstroke 500 which shares all the same engine parts with the exception of the iron barrel.

I'd try Mike Partridge at Waldridge Motors : https://www.walridge.com

You won't find a 1966 parts list. You need 1960 then the supplements of parts that differ up to 1965.

You engine is not 1966 it is a very late 1965. 1966 engines started 135336
Unless you can easily navigate and find what you want in the "archives" you should download and save the above books.

Please note. The DVLA date bikes based on the frame number. You should get the club dating office to confirm the frame no. year of manufacture. It may turn out to be 1966 in which a surplus 1965 engine was used or was later fitted.
It may also be a good idea to join the club, it will save you money.
