Wassell Carbs - pertinent measurements!?

Post by uktom77 »

Ok, I may be about to unleash the flurry of scorn, here goes...

I've recently discovered these wassell carbs and searched the forums. There seems to be some considerable differences of opinion but not found one answering my (probably obvious) question.

Putting those aside for a moment, and bearing in mind I'm no engineer or mechanic, but I am enthusiastic to learn. If I want to try a wassell carb what are the pertinent measurements I need to match up? Is it as simple as matching all the required jets/needles etc. and intake/exit diameters?

It's going on a '52 18s (which I can obviously look up all the Amal measurements for).

Over to you ....

Wassell are probably sourced from Burlen/Amal. I would go with whoever is the cheapest perhaps the club even. If you tell them the year and model the carb will come with all the correct internals. But don't assume the carb will be properly cleaned of swarf etc. internally!!! check. I have heard this criticism before. I even received a new carb with the wrong ( one size smaller) jet block.

Didn't even realise the club sold the wassell ones.

Good info' re:swarf and jetting.

Still curious about the carb measurements though, from a learning aspect.

We don't they gave us too much aggro! I dare say that maybe now they have improved but we'll just stick with Amal from Burlen. We generally don't keep concentrics as they weren't a standard fitment with exception to G15's from 1966.

The Wassell we currently have is the last one and no more will be stocked.

i would recommend them and use them on my P11 and G15 , but what you are asking for is what settings for a concentric when it was not fitted before 1967

i cant answer that question
