Unfortunately my Lucas light switch in the ‘58 G80S is unusable as it is badly damaged. I purchased a ‘Lucas style' switch but the contact posts are slightly different. My wiring diagram shows headlight and dip switch going through post 6 which is missing on my replacement switch. Can I use the switch without this contact post and instead join the wires through the dimmer switch? Or do I need a different switch altogether?

Hi Mark
If you wire it this way you should be okay:
Post 5 (the one with nuts) – Speedo and tail light
Post 4 – Pilot Bulb
Post 3 – Power in and on to the ammeter
Post 2 – Headlight dip switch

Should add that the dip switch output (high/low) goes straight to the headlight bulb, not through the switch.Duncan wrote:Hi Mark

Re: ‘Lucas style’ light switch wiring
Duncan, can I run the purple wire from the regulator straight to the ammeter then the power in to post three and on to the other side of the ammeter? Does it have to go through the main switch?
Also, the horn/dipper switch I have, I'm not clear in which is the output you mentioned that needs to go straight to the light...

You can take the purple wire to the ammeter and back from the same terminal to the post 3, its just the same as going through post 3 it will do the same function. Don't run it to the other side of the ammeter from post 3.markwhitelock wrote:Duncan, can I run the purple wire from the regulator straight to the ammeter then the power in to post three and on to the other side of the ammeter? On the drawing you posted it shows the high and low going to the central switch before connecting to the bulb, this is unnecessary if you use a line connector (any type you like to join two wires).markwhitelock wrote:Also, the horn/dipper switch I have, I'm not clear in which is the output you mentioned that needs to go straight to the light...
So Post 2 to Blue and white strip wire
Brown to headlight high beam through line connector
Blue to headlight low beam through line connector
Hope this helps
