Brakes on 18s
Firstly Stephen, how is the brake plate held from turning?, is there a housing on the fork leg, ie a channel between two lugs, or is there a stay running from the mudguard fixing bolts to the backplate. If the latter, and this runs to the rear of the fork leg, ie. when applying the brake the stay is in compression, you MUST turn the wheel around, if the former then leave it. Check to see if there is a chamfer on the leading edge of the brake linings, if not make one with a file. Take care here, as the linings, if old, may contain asbestos.Edited by - Biscuit on 24 Jun 2006 12:47:47 PM
