Front Brake assembly?

Post by cfaber »

Can someone point me to a diagram of the front brake assembly? Or possibly does anyone know of some disassembly pictures? Thanks!
Fix it until it's broken!

Otherwise how will
anything get done?

I gave Colin the above links to the Owners and Workshop manuals in a reply last December so I assume they don't show what he wants. Perhaps a bit more info on exactly what info's required might help.

Maybe this pic of my (May) 1954 front brake will assist ...........

Answers only apply if the bike has the correct front wheel. All too often I have given detailed replies, that still fail to answer a question because a part is wrong. 1954 had a one year only front wheel hub. Seen in the 54 instruction book, which may not mean much if you do not know what say 53 & 55 look like. So you do first need some knowledge to make use of literature. You will also need the parts list for your bike, so you can check the correct parts number etc. Now you need to know what to do. Dismantle / check / service / re assemble. Where can you find this? Instruction book very basic, perhaps means little without pictures. Workshop manual, that's better, perhaps more illustrations. Can we do better than that for wheels brakes bearing etc. Yes we can, perhaps more info also more of, and more detailed pictures. This info is found in service sheets. So below is one for full width front hubs. Remember what I stated above about reference to your parts list. Do check that what you see in service sheet no. 505, parts seen are the same as for your one off 1954 front wheel.

As the topic of wheel internals etc is often asked, to make things easier I produced a PDF file covering most full width hubs service sheets. This has 11 pages, somewhat more than you will find in Instruction and workshop books on the subject. I was unable to up load this file in tech tips for easy referral. So the file is sitting on the back burner waiting for a place to go. In the meantime, if anyone would like the file send me an e mail prewar@jampot.com requesting PDF file of full width hub service sheets. You can of cause hunt for them in the archives, but would need to know what you are hunting for. Many items will not just jump out for you to find.
