Rear brake plate
Could someone advise re the attached brake plate, does the threaded bolt slot into the slot on the frame, or is something missing?
If yes why the thread?
Sorry about the pic, I struggle to make photo smaller..

Re: Rear brake plate
Hi
Difficult to make out from your photo, but if that's the hub spindle, yes it locates in the swinging arm fork end, the thread allows the whole thing to clamp up.
The other thread is where the brake lever attaches isn't it?
If I've missed the mark could you post a photo from further away?
Regards Mick

Re: Rear brake plate
If by "slot" in the frame you mean a slot cut in the rear of the swingarm on the brake side then yes, you have the wrong brake plate - it should have a 1" x 1/2" (approx) block on the brake plate that slides into the slot. This is for the '63 interim hubs and the '64 Norton hubs.

Re: Rear brake plate
It's for a 1963 g80,
Damn another incorrect part.
So the swinging arm is correct with the slot on the swinging arm, Wrong hub, wrong brake shoes, wrong wheel.
Thanks for your help. Here's a better pic showing the thread which fits into the slot on swinging arm, why the bodge?
The swinging arm is 8 3/4†wide this explains why the rear wheel was fitted without a chainguard. Cos the sprocket won't fit inside the chainguard.
Start looking for spares, or change swinging arm.

Re: Rear brake plate
Do you have the correct rear wheel? For 1963 it should be the interim hub, which uses journal bearings rather than taper rollers. The brake drum/sprocket is also secured to the wheel by 5 long bolts and not the pins or rubber sleeved pins on the wheel and holes in the drum and so is not so "QD" as on the earlier bikes. The alloy plate on the speedo gearbox side should also have 5 holes in it for access to the bolts.
