eBay frame.

Post by Matt Durkin »

Hey all !
I'm looking at a frame loop on eBay that I need to replace my own that has been identified as a 58 G11 (600 twin), but need one that identifies as a G80 500 Single in order to be correctly dated for an age related plate.

The seller tells me it has dating certificate and the frame number is A60488. However, that number sounds familiar to me, and I seem to recall that is just a casting number??

Seller also tells me to contact DVLA for assistance further.

I hace asked him to send me a photocopy of dating certificate, I await that at the moment.

Is it not possible to have my bike registered as a 'bitsa' with a G11 Frame and G80 engine and box?

I don't ever intend selling it or trying to pass it off as a genuine G80, it has far too much sentimental value.

I just really didn't want to have to strip it again, but by the same token, don't want a Q plate. 😞

It's getting me a bit confusificatedified. 🤔

the number A60488 is from a 1958 16MS AJS and the certificate is out of date you need to see a photo the frame number to confirm what the seller is saying.

Hi Roy

Do the club certificates become invalid and under what circumstances?

Are Dating Certificates 'time sensitive'? The one you issued for my G3 is dated September 2017. How long have I got before I need to get another one?

EDIT.... Sorry, just seen your answer above............ :(
I'm from the Fens.... Gimme six.

Change in DVLA rules means you probably need to check the frame date and whether AJS or Matchless by using the online dating and indentification service before starting a restoration unless you are certain you will complete it in under a year. Take photos of the frame number before painting the frame to ensure it is easy to read, although before registration the DVLA will probably inspect and want to see the number clearly. When you are ready to register the bike apply for dating cert which will only be valid for one year.
Roy will pull me up if this is not the way to go about it.
