Sounds like you need some serious heat applied locally.... oxy-propane, maybe? Get the bottom rail sizzling hot then try to unscrew the stud.

That's not an advert, just a very useful piece of advice to help bods understand and fix their bikes and is the whole point of a good internet forum - dissemination of information and long may it continue. :D

I also could not remove the stud so drilled it out of the boss re tapped and fitted new stud easy with the rail in the vice.
