Note the adjuster screw is only open 1/6th of a turn. Also note the problems if you have too much oil up top. I have never had any problems in 61 years of riding AMC bikes, due to lubrication. Except recently with wet sumping, due to not using the bikes for regular transport. That cannot really be considered a problem. I do not think AMC considered it a problem either. I would not have thought they would have considered testing a bike, to discover any faults if left unused for 9 months a year.
NOTE: hole number 1, oil feed to inlet valve. Make sure that is not blocked with gasket sealant. Remove the adjuster screw, make sure that oil way is clear. If you are not getting oil up top you will perhaps hear valve squeak, and see dryness when the tappet cover is removed.
