Pointless ignition conversion for G80
Can anyone recommend a pointless ignition conversion for 1958 coil ignition G80?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I am contemplating putting a Thorspark unit on mine.

I've just been looking at that very thing. I'm wondering if it might be better to spend 150 of our fine British quids on that rather than 3-400 of them on having my mag reconditioned.ajstdrchris wrote:I am contemplating putting a Thorspark unit on mine.
I'd be interested to hear opinions from anyone who's fitted one.

Some folk say that if your battery fails then you're going no-where with electronic ignition. My experience with a failed mag is the same. The Thorspark seems easy to fit and means you can use a knackered donor mag to house it.

A coil ignition G80 does not have a magneto, but the Thorspark replaces the points plate and can be fitted to a distributor as well, just get the correct kit. I have successfully fitted a Thorspark to my twin AJS's magneto and am very happy with it.

£300 or £400 for a mag rebuild is excessive. I've had 4 or 5 done over the years and never more than £180.Done properly too. They will last a life time. I'd sooner a mag over coil or electronic anyday as there is no concern over battery condition or charging system.

I would be very grateful if you could point me towards someone who will do a 'proper' refurbishment for £180. I've been in touch with numerous people over the last few weeks and all the quotes were between 3 and 4 hundred pounds with delivery lead times quoted in months!1608 wrote:£300 or £400 for a mag rebuild is excessive.
