Matchless G80S - 1961

Post by DARIOSKI »

I'm owner of a Matchless G80 S - 1961 . The bike has black tank with white stripes. Certainly the tank has not been repainted. The certifyer Italian of ASI tells me that the threads have to be only silver. I would like to know if that type of bike was also built with white stripes. Thanks for reply.
Thank for

I do not think there was a 1961 G80 S. Only G80 & G80 CS. So you need check your numbers to discover the correct year & model you have. G 80 frame will have 5 numbers, G80 CS frame will only have 4 numbers. G80 will be 498 c.c. G80 CS will be 497 c.c. engine. Also look at 1961 Sales cat. to see if you have the correct petrol for the year & model. You can check colours and lining colour, use the link above.

Also, if it is a 1961 G80 the tank will have rubber band rear fixing could be black with striping. If 1961 G80CS it will have a single bolt rear fixing they were usually red with striping or red and chrome but have seen black with white striping.

Harry

Interested in your comment about the single bolt fixing, would it look like this?

No Duncan. I was talking about a 3 gallon comp tank. The rear fixing is more square. See attached.

Which bike is that one for?

I'm sure I have seen something similar but can't remember where. Looks heavyweight with those chrome panels. What front fixing does it have?

Harry, a man who knows has identified it as off of a 1960-only single.
