I've just had a repair done (exhaust stub replacement brazen in) and wish to know what material is used to colour the head and barrel black (currently the head is bare metal having been bead blasted prior to brazing)

stove enamel was originally used, I have used hammerite smooth aerosol with success, stinks a bit when started up but lasts well.

Thanks for the quick reply. What do you use to prepare the surface? Bake it in the oven to drive off the oily surface?

Boil it in caustic soda, but oil the bore and valve seats as soon as it is sufficiently cool. Might we have a discussion on what shade of black?
