G80s runs rough

Post by Debbie Green »

l have just had delivery of my 1st Machless, when l took it out for it's 1 st ride it was only fireing a shot about every white post. lt hadn't been ridden for a years before l got it so l flushed the fuel tank before l started, so l will pull the carb down tomorow and give that a clean out, but after l changed the tyres l was adjusting the brakes, about 1/2 way through the brake light stopped working. l checked the head light and the parker wasn't working anymore, but l have low and high beam. Checking both globes they seen fine. l'm worried that the gentleman l got the bike off may have fitted a 12 v battery. All the globes are 6v.
ls this bike a 12v or 6v system[?] G80S 58 please can someone help, l have it booked in for a road worthy tomorow at 9 am.[:)]

Hi Debbie,
Your bike was originally 6v but many have been converted the 12v, a very simple wiring change on alternator machines, as yours should be. Also when encountering problems with tail and/or brake lamps check for contunuity of the return path a it relies on the lamp socket, rear licence holder, mudguard, frame & fasteners to complete the circuit. It is best to run additional return wires direcly to head & tail lamps as well as any other components not having same.
For support & encouragement try: The Phillips Family, pipfam@slingshot.co.nz It's a long swim but they are enthusiastic & knowledgable. Besides, Kiwis are nice people!
Cheers, Don Madden.
