GS80 engine numbers?

Post by en7jos »

Hi All,

I received an email this morning via my website regarding 'GS80' engine numbers - not something I have the faintest idea about, but sure someone here will be able to point him in the right direction. I'm emailing him a link to this thread...

Soef - welcome to the Owner's Club Forum! I'm sure you'll find the answers to all the questions regarding your Dad's bike here. Why not also consider joining the club (see links across the top of the page) - maybe a nice belated Christmas present for your Dad!?!

Wishing everyone a happy new year!

Regards, James

Incorrect numbers. GS 80?? G80S perhaps which was early 50's but not with a 4 digit number.
Also not aware of any frame numbers with 7 digits

Hello,

The numbers are not incorrect on the engine are only the numbers 5832
and are on the other side of the engine as normal!

I have pictures of the frame and engine.

Comp engines and frames were in general, engine number prefixed with last 2 digits year, model e.g. G80 then type C, S, CS CSR.
Frame numbers usualy prefix with C

Engine number will be stamped on the left crank case just below the barrel, Frame number on the right hand side, on the end of the tube running under the petrol tank , just below the saddle. These numbers are punch stamped, not part of a casting, which are casting numbers.

Hi Soef,

To upload your photos, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the button that says "Post a reply". Then below the box where you type your reply you'll see a couple of tabs - the "Options" one is selected, so click on the "Upload attachment" one. Click the "Choose File" button to select the picture file on your computer, then click on the "Add file" button to upload the picture to the forum and attach it to your reply. I think you can add a maximum of 3 photos per reply, and make sure they're not too big in size so that they display nicely in the thread. Remember to click "Submit" at the end to post your new reply and photos (might be worthwhile previewing first so you can double check the photos all look right before confirming).

Looking forward to seeing your mysterious bike :)
