Fitting bead to petrol tank

Post by Maurice »

I have had the bead from the petrol tank re-chromed. It is now very hard and inflexible. Any tips on refitting. Buying a new one from Jampot Spares is not an option as it is not available for my 1962 Model 16. (Is it really different from other years?)

Best option I know (and this applies to new ones as well, particularly in the Winter when the plastic gets hard and brittle) is to stick the bead into a bowl of hot water for a few minutes before you fit it. You will be surprised the difference it can make but it may not recover a bead that has been petrol soaked for years. There really isn't much hope then I'm afraid.
