1959 G3 Speedo Mounting

Post by MikeG »

Could any of you helpful people tell me what retains the Smiths speedo in the headlight housing. It dosen't appear to have provision for a U clamp, so I assume it needs a rubber grommet of some sort. If so do you know either the part no. or part name. I have tried without succes to find anything on the Jampot Spares list.
Many thanks.

The speedo is secured, as you said by a 'U' shaped bracket, part No. 022057. Perhaps you are missing the studs on the speedo. I have seen the head held, reasonably securely, with a heavy grommet. I'll try and find out more tomorrow

Yes, there is a grommet between the speedo and headlamp shell. It is a reverse L-shape, partno. 021798, which fits right under the bezel. The long leg of the L goes between the speedo housing and the edge of the hole, whereas the short leg goes between the underside of the bezel and the headlamp shell. Kind of difficult to explain, but obvious when you have the grommet in hand. Jampot Spares Ltd. has it.

Thank you gentlemen for your help. I can now see how the grommet part works. I will order on jampot now that I know the part no.
Cheers, Mike
