1947 G3L - What nuts and bolts

Can anyone supply me with or point me in te right direction to the exact sizes of all nuts, bolts and washers for my 1947 G3L?

Start by going to the archive and downloading the Parts List for your bike:

The archive also contains Owner's Manuals, Workshop Manuals and a wealth of other documentation including part number cross reference lists and hardware identification.

I don't think any specific list has been compiled / published for your, or any bike, it's a case of doing the groundwork with the information available unless someone has one they will share.

If you want a list of all nuts etc. for your bike. There will not be one. Your bike is unlikely to be 100% correct. Your bike would need to be 100% correct.
I can show you the way to find most nuts & bolts inc sizes. The hard work has been done in making an Excell file of paper parts lists.
Please follow the way you should go. It will also save you money buying wrong bits.

The first thing you must do when getting an old bike is make sure you know exactly what you have got. Then get parts lists and workshop manuals. Not much good telling you all about, bits for a 47 / G3L, if you have a mixture of bits.
You will not find a list for exact sizes for all parts of your bike. It is also very unlikely to be 100% correct. So do as I suggest first. It may then become clear why I have stated, parts lists & manuals. Having done that, You can then discover as you progress, also make your own list, of nuts and bolts for parts your bike consists of. You will discover. Many parts have a no. starting STD. These are parts common to many years and models. The size for almost all STD parts will show the size in you parts lists. You can find these parts by size, from NUTS & BOLTS suppliers. To order these parts from say club spares, you will need to convert the STD pt. no. to the new part number. In the archives Mick mentions, if you go to parts lists, right on top of the lists is an old to new parts list conversion book. However, converting STD pt. no. to new is simple. Delete STD and add enough zero's to make a 6 digit number. ( e.g. STD 1 = 000001. STD 999 = 000999 ) Any part for you bike that will convert to a new part number, may be found in stock, using the new pt. no. AMC made the old to new numbers, back in 1952. So ordering via a new pt. no. has been used since then.

We're getting there.

Now back to the Archives again Mick mentioned. Perhaps Mick is not aware a list can be collated from files available.

See pic. You will notice I have given the main part number converter book, a title starting 000, so it goes top of the list, easy to find. The first few pages of this file are supplements. So flip through those till you reach the main book needed first. You will need to use list in conjunction with what ever parts list you need for what your bike consists of.
You are now on your way to making your own bikes personal file of all nuts, bolts, studs washers etc.
Note the next file in the above book I have given 00 in the title, so is seen 2nd on the list. Its a DIR file, click on it. It will open showing more files. One will be 1941 / 1948 G4L Download this file. Its an excel file you can sort to group all nuts, all bolts etc etc. So you can make your bikes personal file of all fittings.

- 017143 - Nut
- 017094 - Bolt
- 010788 - Bolt
- 010716 - Screw
- 012146 - Bolt
- 010795 - Bolt
- 000001- Nut
- 000010 - Plain Washer
- 000165 - Lock Washer
- 000185 - Plain Washer
- 000213 - Spigot Nut
- 000215 - Nut
- 000025 - Plain Washer
- 000005 - Nut
- 000575 - Drain Plug
- 000597 - Bolt

It would be well worth investing in a digital vernier gauge and a set of imperial thread gauges - unless the bikes been messed with you shouldnt need a metric set.
Both together should cost you less than 20 quid if you shop around and are essentials if you intend getting into restoration/repair. Most of the usual fastenings will be a mix of Whitworth, BSF and Cycle Thread. There'll be the odd BA one thrown in for good measure. Finding your way around them is all part of the fun

I found this webpage really helpful -http://stainlessbits.com/link12a.html. It's not complete but you'll probably find a good few of the sizes listed there.
As it says in the instructions, hit Ctrl+F on your keyboard but only put the last four digits of the part number in the search box.

We have tried to help but you have not taken advice. At least 8 of the above sizes you ask for can be found, where you have been told to look. Which clearly you have not bothered to do.
So I will just tell you once more, look in your parts list or here http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_l ... ements.pdf
It is easier in the book the link takes you to. I soon found all the sizes except those I where put an X .
So if you just spent the time looking as I have done for you, you will find at least 8 of the 15. I found.
I have actually spent far longer trying to help you, than it would have taken you to look.
