Hi Guys, Thanks again for your research efforts and help. I think the fact that the part number on hub is only two digits away from 1954 No, it's likely to be a late '54 hub. Anyhow, the fact is the hub is wrong for my bike. So, any advice on which hub I should have? If I get one will I be able to swap spokes and rims over or will I need new spokes?
As ever any help most appreciated.
Cheers,
Liam.

You need a 1/2 width hub, check what it looks like in the right parts book. The spoke length is different on both sides and the heads are bent at 90 degrees. the rim probably wont fit properly either. So, its a complete new wheel or bits to make.Sorry.
But you can use what you have 'till you find what you are looking for.

Thanks Alan, I think that can wait till the winter lay up. When you say 1/2 width , is it still a cake tin type hub? Cheers, Liam.

Have a look at pages 50 and 52 in the Spares List. The hub is 018046....

Also the illustration of the hub and brake assembly on page 68 of your Owners Manual.....

BTW - Have you had it dated? If it was made ( i.e. made, not registered) after 1st. September '53 it is likely to be a '54 model which was the first year that models were fitted with the full width hub.

Yes, get it dated as a matter of course. its cheap enough and gives you something concrete to work from. My 54 rigid has cake tin front hub and my 53 sprung has a 1/2 width hub. have a look on this website for 'photos' and in the box, type in 1953. you can search through and find some images of 1/2 with hubs. 53 should have y shaped slots on one side for the spokes. Earlier 1/2 width have keyhole slots. All fit.

1/2 width is not cake tin type.

Hi Guys, I had my bike dated when I got it as the original registration had been sold off. My bike was completed and tested by the factory on 26th October 1953.
Frame no. A6895.
Engine no. 54/16M 21025.
So if I understand, it's possible that my hub is correct?
Cheers, Liam.

So it's a '54 model with full width 'biscuit tin' front hub and half width rear hub.
Dave.
