Hello I am a new member based in West Wales, also a VMCC member. I have just bought an AJS 16m 1947 frame 1951 engine in Trials spec. I would like to find out more about its history and in particular any info on the original engine which seems to have an unusual number.

the original engine was 47\16m\S720 --- or could that be 5720 (It looks like an S in the buff log book) First registered in Feb 1947 but there seems to be a log book cancellation and a new one issued in 1954.
There was an 1951 engine change recorded in the book in 1963 documented and stamped.

The frame number is 16666

Thanks in advance.

Got work out how to get a photo up here. - Yay I have thanks to Eamon

Welcome, the bike looks great. What's that perched above the dynamo?

Hi - it's a very well made aluminum dirt and stuff guard - it's a perfect fit.

I think spookefoote meant the cylindrical thing behind the barrel. Cheers. Bruce.

Ha ha Doh of course - it's an AJS Tool box - you see them on the 16c but often under the seat - this has been mounted on what looks like a factory mount but I am not sure.

The bike seems to be very well sorted - lots of trick bits like shortened frame, lightening mods etc.
