Rattling fork

Post by Expat »

Hi All. Feeling pleased after working up the courage to investigate the front fork rattle when traveling over bumpy roads. As had been suggested many times here, after unscrewing the left hand top bolt......lo and behold, the damper rod remained in the depths.

Not only that but after pulling it up using a telescopic magnet thingy, it had obviously never been attached to the top bolt since the previous strip down anyway, because the adapter had been screwed onto the rod against the lock nut, upside down! :

After assembling correctly and changing the (clean looking) oil in both sides, all I had available was30 grade.....no more rattle. :D

Thanks for the pointers all.

Now if only the left side stops leaking. ;) :)

Oh, and in the course of generally looking over, found and removed the shank of a nail in the rear tyre that hadn't quite burrowed it's way into the nice new inner tube, the bastidge.

Regards,

Steve
