Tyre pressures

Post by Oldun70 »

Having purchased a 1953 16M/S now comes the vexed question of tyre pressures. The previous owner ran on 18psi Front and 22 Rear. This seems very low to me. Looking on various sites re pressures lots of advice is given re when to check and if you are heavy or likely to run at high speeds ( not likely on a 16M/S) but no specific psi for any manufacturer. What pressures generally do other people ride who are around the 12 !/2 stone.

Tyres now need higher pressures because of softer sidewalls and compounds. Add at least 8lbs to those figures. I run Avon Speedmasters at 26-8 front and 28-30 rear. Also Mitas, the same.
Dave.

PS it's also a personal thing, your weight, luggage, type of tyre etc. If you feel they're too soft, try higher pressures or if they feel too hard let some air out until they feel right for you.
