Many years ago I had a similar problem with cutting out after about 5 miles but starting when cold. I found of all things a waxy coating on the pick up in the mag, cleaned off been good now for 16 years. Bet that's put the curse on me now. :D

I've " had " a similar problem with my 1960 M31 Alternator twin . Fitted with a Boyer Bransden Inductive Ignition .

Today I managed 50 miles without a hiccup so fingers crossed - Its cured . !!!
Symptoms came on suddenly , ( October last year ) do 10 miles without a problem , then start misfiring to the point of being almost unrideable . On both cylinders . After a cool down , ran again for 10 miles .

Unfortunately I did 2 things together , so I don't know which cured it , But replaced the Regulator/rectifier and remade all the electric connections and earths in this area .
I'm pretty sure it was the Regulator/rectifier that was at fault as all the connections I remade looked good .
I had already replaced the coil ( 3 times , 2 new , 1 old known good ) , Plugs , points , distributor cap and plug leads . without success
Wishing you success cos its bloody annoying init .

You could fit a magneto. Then you know what it is when there is slack of sparks.😎

I have the attached solid state regulator fitted on the 12v system, don't think there's a way to test so I will buy a new one.
Is the one on Jampot spares a 6v or 12v mines an alternator.
The one above is a pic not the actual one but looks the same as mine

I bought an A-Reg single phase 12 volt from AO services .
Looks very similar to the one it was replacing .

Hi

The link is to a solid state rectifier, ie it converts AC from the alternator to DC for powering the circuits and charging the battery.

Is you battery flat when the bike falters? If not then it is unlikely the rectifier is the cause.

Thanks Mick, Battery's good, ordered some new points and condensor as points pitted, so pointing toward condensor as already suggested.
Retimed, engine to 1/2" btdc. and still getting intermittent spark at plug.
Good oil return,
Will wait till parts arrive and try again, Thanks again for all the suggestions.
