G3L 1941 tappets and tappet guides

Post by PFN »

Hi.
I thought I had a good running engine, until i took it apart. Serious wear in big end bearing, whitch I hsve almost fixed, but as I'm in there core of things, I would very much like to replace tappets and their guides.
In paticular the exhaust ones, as it is very worn. I have been looking around, to find new parts, but this seems very difficult. Plenty of the "plain" kind, but none of those where yhe valvelifter is placed in the crankcase.
I sincerely hope that I can get some help on this. Part numbers from the 1941 spare parta cataloque
Tappet.............STD-671-A
Tappet guide.....STD-662
Collar..............STD-638

Best regards

These parts were given new part numbers circa 1950 delete STD and replace with 000 for the new part number. STD638 became 000638 and is the same as 017024. Using the old and new part numbers may help your search for the parts, new old stock perhaps. Have you tried Russell motors.

Thank you, Bob.
Didn't know about the numbers. Were about to modify a straight one, but i will try searching again, and also try Russell.
Cheers
