You sure *must* have a look at what is here called "the archives" or "Christian's archives": http://archives.jampot.dk/ . A wealth of information!
Though the document I mentioned doesn't seem to be there.
For the PRS8 internals:
http://archives.jampot.dk/technical/Ele ... v_gear.pdf , pdf-page 42
https://www.britishonly.com/pdf/lucas/L ... _part8.pdf , pdf-page 9

I don't have bikes with this switch so I can't check anything in real life. I suppose that the internals of the PRS8 are always the same but that there are different versions of the external links between terminals (probably the character appended to the Lucas number).

If you have an electronic voltage control unit you may have killed it when connecting the battery incorrectly. Nevertheless the horn and stop light should still work as these are (should be) wired directly to the battery.

Check the battery voltage when not connected to anything. Your shenanigans with the battery (smoke, reversed polarity etc) may have caused an internal battery fault.

No electronic control unit. Just an alternator, coil, contact breakers and a rectifier. I must make a big effort to work on this. Everything else seems to be stopping me, or am I delaying because I am heading into the unknown (for me)....

The problem was a wire to the tail/stop light was dangling inside the rear mudguard and had worn through on the rear tyre. All damaged/burnt wires now replaced. 15 amp fuse fitted. Lights and ignition all working again! Big smiles all round :-)
