Air filter element

Post by Expat »

While fitting the remote oil filter, I took the air filter out from between the oil tank and toolbox. The element itself is filthy and I would like to replace it but can't find any details re replacements on the club site.

Has anybody found or adapted something to work that fits in the oem filter holder?

Thanks

Just a suggestion, check vacuum cleaner filter elements, for something like that used on the air filter. These may be found quite cheap and could be cut to fit. I would however question if they may be suitable, perhaps petrol may destroy them and the carb suck in bits.

Yes Rob, that definitely could be an issue and maybe not worth the risk to find out :( , but thanks anyway. I did find an element on the Fkd website that could possibly be adapted to suit my bike but sadly nothing on the club site. I'll kep looking.

One other curious thing. The O P made up a tube leading from the filter casing, which has a round exit hole about 2' diameter, passing through the cover plate and connecting to the carb. It's made from flexible aluminium air hose and doesn't really look right, the thing being, all the filter casings and hoses I've seen are an oval shape at the filter end where the hose connects.

Were there originally different types available back at time of manufacture?

Usually best to adapt a car filter inner. Same with the hose, find a car hose that fits.

Just thought I would post up some pics of the air filter and hose arrangement I cobbled together. Looks better than the metal concertina tube I reckon :P

Here's the filter element from Feked

I turned up this adaptor spigot in my lunch break at work

Assembled it all using a cut down truck hose bought from my helpful local motor factor

Here it is fitted. Quite pleased overall

Used this wheeled car dolly so I could move the bike around while each wheel was off during tyre changing.
