G3LS 1953 Clutch
Without more details, I would guess you have a CP type clutch. The '53 bikes had the B52 box. This does not have one thick plate, they are all the same, also the B52 case has strips rivetted internally to engage with slots in the friction plates ie. the friction plates do not have tongues that protrude through the case. The manual, obtainable from the club, gives general arrangements of both types of clutch. Yes, I know they are expensive (£25.61) but with your project it is essential.

I believe my brother may have a manual he wishes to sell. If you want it I can ask him. he would probably give you a bargain. Mind, it is not the 2004 edition [:)]
