The standard test for the cases being hot enough is "the spit test",
if you spit on the cases and it sizzles off, the cases are hot enough to insert the bearings!

According to the manual, supplied by the club, 1955-57 singles had one spacing washer. The spares list for the '54 singles gives one spacing washer, which are different depending on the bearing make, Skefco or Hoffman. If one Skefco and one Hoffman are used, then both washers are used, the smaller a washer adjacent to the Skefco bearing. ( I didn't know this, I have just read it!.[^]) The manual also gives a fairly comprehensive assembly for the engine.

The spit test is good but err on the side of too hot as they cool quickly. Ie.. continue to heat it for a minute after the spit sizzles. Also put the shells in the freezer overnight and take them out just before dropping them in. Put a line of stud and bearing lock around the outside of the shell and drop them in. They will go in like a sausage up Regent street and not go anywhere afterwards [:)]

Ooops! [:I]

I am not having a good week. I went to a wedding last weekend and asked one of the bridesmaids if she was mother of the bride [:I][:I]
