Leaky petrol tank

Post by john »

I have put a very nice ally petrol tank on my G3CS, I was very pleased. Now it is leaking from the back fixing, I have tried tank sealant with only short term effect.

Any ideas, tips?

Take it to a specialist alloy welder who will fix the leak and it will look as good as new. Then make sure that the tank is well isolated from the vibes with an ample amount of rubber.

My motto is 'too much rubber........impossible' [:I]

I had the identical problem with a steel tank. Tank sealant was recommended, but like you it only worked for a short time. In the end welding was the only sensible answer. The only problem then for me was what to do about the the crud left inside the tank by heat applied to the tank sealant [:(] and the damaged paint outside [V] [?] . At least with the alloy tank you may only have an inside problem.[;)]

Thanks to the learned collective for their advise, I’m just sorry there was not a magic dust solution but at least I have moved from denial to acceptance of the problem.

I hope the “ample rubber” tip does not led to pipe lagging and black insulating tape route loved by Triton owners?
