Thwarted,
All set to go to Kettering tomorrow and pick up a 043186 spider for my i think 0401701 main shaft, i thought better ring first to make sure they are open talked to the person in spares and told him my requirements he said from the numbers i have quoted i have a 250 shaft in my 350 and said the spider i require is a 043337 for a 350 which they do not supply because they only made a handful of 350,s and it was not worth making and you will be lucky to get any spares what so ever, also if i fit a 350 clutch on this shaft will fail due to the extra torque of a 350 going through a 250 shaft.
I am now confused .

Martin go to Kettering and tell them they are complete dummies! We have plenty of stock for centres. We have 19 of 043186 and 20 of 043509. Where the hell 043337 came from I have no idea.

What??! from your thread length it is clearly a 350 shaft and being stepped it is the early one, have a look again at clangers pictures. The early 350 shaft is not shown there but it looks the same and has the same thread length as the later one but just has a step in it, as yours has

Paul and Rob are 100% correct: there's one type of spider for the (early) stepped shaft (043186) and another for the later shaft (043509).
Your shaft is stepped, so you need 043186.
Makes no difference at all whether it's a 250 or 350!

PS: 043337 is the splined clutch centre i.e. the bit the spider fits inside. This part fits all 350s, the last of the 250CS and duplex-drive 250CSRs (i.e. most of 'em). It is very hard to find. You are not shopping for this part.

Someone at Kettering is confused. ;)

Threw caution into the wind jumped onto the bike not model 8 350 well not yet and headed to Kettering 74mile round trip nice day for a ride and purchased 043186 spider
Ninety pounds lighter i thought while i am here and for a change i have some extra money in my pocket i will buy some more clutch parts to add to the three i have now ,bitterly disappointed that is the only lightweight clutch part they have or any part for that matter and also before i was allowed to purchase the spider i had to sign at the bottom of the receipt saying i take full responsibility for fitting a 250 clutch on a 350 oh well never mind the quest continues.

Sign to take full responsibility?? Unbelievable!! It is an early clutch centre for both bikes for Gods sake, there are only two. Yes the immense pulling power of a 350 over a 250 is really going to do some serious damage! But it doesn't matter AS THEY ARE THE SAME!! Doesn't anyone there check the manual as it clearly states it in the workshop manual as per the picture I posted on here a while back. Try AMC Classic spares for your other parts or Andrew Engineering (Leigh) if they are still trading

One day LLF 908 will rise like the phoenix from the ashes , now i have the center in theory the other clutch parts should not be that difficult to identify i hope. As always thanks to everybody for all the photos ,diagrams and information forum members have uploaded this enabled me to purchase the correct part i am very grateful

That is really bad service from the spares scheme! :headbang:

I know most of the club committee are away at Jampot, but I do hope someone can update/correct Kettering's parts database. I'm sure these clutch centres were remanufactured at great expense to the club; you're never going to sell 'em like this!

Lightweight parts are confusing enough without the club spares scheme making things worse...

I agree it would be good to know what is available and what is not, i know there is a problem with lightweight spares, supply and demand engineering costs ,but if there are spares there i will buy parts if i know they are available, on a very rare occasion i had money burning a hole in my pocket and nothing to spend it on.
