Definitely need to remove that gear before you can split the casesSPRIDDLER wrote: I've not stripped a 'Lightweight' engine but (unless my memory's failing) on the Heavyweight you don't need to remove the timing pinion to split the c/case as it will pass through the timing side bush when you separate the halves.
A Lightweight officianado may well correct me.

Thanks for enlightening me, Paul. I see it now.
Should've realised that the casting design is totally different from the H/W.
Shame.

No worries, you still probably know more about lightweights than I know about H/W'sSPRIDDLER wrote:Thanks for enlightening me, Paul. I see it now.

Hmm, maybe, but mostly gleaned from years of help received on here on a 'need to know' basis.
Unlike my incompetence at building my garage some years ago when old Mr Purdey, a village 'character', stood watching me for a while over the fence before wheezing: "Thee don't know whether that there mortar is to stick they bricks together or 'old 'em apart, do ee?"
I still don't, but the garage is still there.

I think the big end assy on the later CSR's is the same size as the 350, you cant use the CSR rod but there is a complete NOS unit for sale here

HURRAY pulled the timing pinion gear off! Local engineer made the puller so can split the engine and now I have a puller so out there are still these cracking little gems of metal and smells workshops as big as a garage so loads of work left to do but off to relax in spain for the week had enough of the rain thumbs up~! When I'm back project continues...fly-wheels away back to the engineer.
