Alan, just a thought. You don't think Nigel could be talking about part No.042046 the screw/bolt that locates the oil pump feed plug? It screws through the crankcase and locks onto the plug part No.042044.
The locating bolt is not shown in the exploded diagram but is mentioned in the workshop manual.

I have looked on the exploded diagram and found the part (042046) that you`re on about, does the part 042044 fit into the end of the oil pump shaft? If so how does the shaft turn if 042046 locks onto it?
I have taken a couple of photos but don`t know how to put them on the site.
There is a small threaded pin, no head or slot but is reduced on the end. It doesn`t look as if it has broken but I was wondering how it locked into place, which is why I likened it to the one in the cylinder head. The one in the exploded diagram looks to be a bolt.

042044 is just a plug, fitted with an 'o' ring, 042046 is a screwed pin that locates the plug. the plug does not turn, so the fact that the pin locks on to the plug matters not.

Does 042044 fit into the end of the shaft? If it does then how does 042046 lock onto it? I maybe missing something simple here, or I may be simple, bit if it is in the end of the shaft, and the shaft should turn, if 042046 locks onto it how does it turn??????
Maybe a nice G3L would have been a better bet, but there again where could I have found one for £250!

Maybe help in getting the photographs onto the site would be the big step forward. Sorry, but I've not done this so can't help, but I'm sure there was a thread on it recently.
PS But I did have a 14CSR so might (don't hold your breath) recognise what the story is when I can see it.

042044 simply blocks the end of the bore in which the pump plunger or shaft revolves and oscillates. Nothing fits/screws/locks onto the either end of of the pump shaft, if it wasn't for the guide pin the pump shaft would wobble up and down like a willy in a windsock.
