Shouldn't be necessary on a G2. Mine has the competition 7-plate clutch, it never slips and it's not heavy at all.

Thank you for your thoughts .
We've now got new plates and springs . All wound in and trued up. I think the ball may have been initially disturbed as we now have a better operating arm position.
It's still quite heavy but I'm going to try and back the springs off a shade. They're at the correct starting point , ie ,just at the thread in the screwdriver slot.
