As an Engineer we design to work - not "make do" as this assembly has been constructed as. The unit as a whole looks to have been designed by a 4 year old.
Back to issue - having now heard quite a few of these run the whole noise that is generated by the loose clutch assembly is definetly not normal nor should it be accepted as such. No engine should sound like a bag of spanners in a tumble dryer! Then there is another couple of guys and their sound exactly like that. When you have 0.5mm free play in a rotating assebly that wobbles at many thousand rpm - would you accept that as normal?
I am not trying to build a better mousetrap - just get it to run as it should and that is wihtour 95% of the freeplay and no noise. It will get done and done right this time.
This sounds correct:

and so does this one:

HOWEVER - this is what a knackered clutch assembly sounds like:

This one sounds great too https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=8a6JwNCicG4 c/w it's clutch with a bit of play in it. Yes it's mine.. People on here are trying to help you but apparently you know everything already so why do you need to ask. Coming across with an attitude will not encourage people to assist you and I for one will not be answering any more of your queries.

Calm down, dear. We amateurs manage to bumble along both far and wide quite happily for many thousands of miles with our wobbles.BigJock wrote:As an Engineer we design to work - not "make do" as this assembly has been constructed as. Take what you have designed forward 60 years into the future. Like you have done with the G2. Its now 2077 and a designer is looking at your efforts in 2017. Having made the above statement, you have GOT to come up with something that would be expected 60 years into the future. Or your comment will apply to yourself.

Hi BigJock, I got the rollers from Vintage Bearing Company to answer your question and query that you asked. If I have a worn wheel, main or big end bearing I fix it or adjust it if it's in need of repair Jock and thats my two bobs worth.

Thanks for the replies folks and now all is sorted - properly this time with no noise or rattles - took a 3 step shim with upto 0.6mm to sort it.
Little reply for Ozmadman:- try not to read too much into forum comments it obviously doesnt aggree with your temperate nature as for some reason you seem to take things too personally. Now put the dummy back in and get on with life.
