If you're not in a hurry, I plan to draw up a proper wiring diagram of my 12v loom (once winter sets in).
I can post it here - that way it'll hopefully be easier for others to do their own upgrade...

Trouble with the older bikes is that the wiring has sometimes been "modified" as the years go by with modern spades etc. instead of bullets and extra added on in different colours as they break/wear.
My wiring colours do not seem to readily be the same as the original wiring diagram as the loom is a newish modern replacement.
The original wiring diagrams are not always good quality either as they are blown up from the workshop manual and sometimes the print is hard to see.
It needs someone to redo/reprint these in colour.
I'm gradually getting there using a multimeter but it's slow going.

Almost got the wiring sorted but one thing is puzzling me.
Looking at the 250/350 wiring diagram in the workshop manual there doesn't appear to be a dip switch ??
Did the earlier bikes just use the H/L switch??
If so am I going to have to break in to the modern loom??

According to my diagrams the earlier bikes had a combined dip/horn switch.
1960- 1966 had seperate horn and dip switchs.
No need to break into the harness as the dip switch connects to the headlamp feed from the harness in the head lamp.

So when you want lights on do you just put the switch to H ??
Is the L position no longer used although it is still connected ?

H position for tail, speedo and head light.
L position for tail, speedo and pilot light.

Ah that would make sense I was assuming it was L for low or dip.

I now have a horn/spark/tail light.
I'm waiting for a headlight bulb holder and then I can tackle the headlamp.
The box of bits I got with the bike contains a new resistor but my loom doesn't have a feed for this.
The question is do I fit it or replace the regulator with an electronic one?? I presume it won't hurt to try and start the bike without it as I won't be running it very long.
After that the next job is to clean out the carb and fill with clean oil and see if it will start.
There is no choke slider in my carb and the cable entry/fitting has a screwed in blank very like the normal cable end. Is this correct or should it have a choke?? Is the tickler enough?
Then I will start tidying up the rusty bits

My bike doesn't have a choke and I have never needed one.
Just a quick tickle and it starts first kick...

Just a quick tickle and it starts ............................eventually.
Note: sometimes it starts first kick. When it doesn't it's not because it hasn't a choke fitted.
