Handlebars 1960 model 14

Post by Rogkid »

I have been told that the bike has James front forks, the handlebars are welded to the brackets which bolt to the forks and the brackets
for the brake and clutch levers are welded to the handlebars.
The levers have been replaced with incorrect ones and the spares dept are unable to supply correct levers.
Has anyone come across this problem or have any solution. All I can think of is to undo the welded lever brackets
by hacksaw, rechrome the bars then buy new complete levers. Frustrating isn't it!
Any ideas ?

My 1958 lightweight has bars clamped horizontal on the top of the forks, ( These lightweight forks sometimes referred to as James Bantam etc.) The CSR's have different forks and bars clamped vertical on the back. Perhaps someone will shed some light on the welded bars. Which would had always been annoying if bars got bent.

Last time I heard this problem, Vale-Onslow of Birmingham were able to supply suitable items from their range of F-B & James spares.

Would these be any good or are they the ones that are already fitted:

Thanks all, the levers on ebay are the ones that are fitted. The welded brackets are open ie it would seem that the levers should be solid to fit
in between the welded top and bottom. The ones I have as in the photo would seem to fit over a solid bracket and are too wide for the welded
brackets. Does this make sense ?

The Levers are NOT SOLID ones .
There is a Spacer fitted at the Pivot between the Lever end`s .
I can send you a picture of the Way they are fitted as i have a Francis Barnett 197cc with the same lever`s .

Hi all,

thought I'd re-new this thread. I'm struggling to find handlebars with a riser/studs to go directly onto my lightweights top yoke. Any ideas?

I have 58 250 lightweight also 63 & 66 CSR's all have clamps for 7/8" bars, onto which I could fit what ever I choose. I took these off one CSR and replaced them with Ace bars. Note the bars do not need riser studs??? I have put them in Parts for sale, so as not to offer them here, if they are any help. eeeerrr maybe I'll get a slap for that, I'm holding out my hand Clive.
