SLG 989 History?

Post by Peter Platt »

Hi Folks,

Does anyone have any history for SLG 989 (1954 AJS M18S) which is now in my hands. The reg' is thought to be original.
Any info is most welcome.

Thanks,

Pete P.

The LG series registration marks were originally issued by Cheshire County Council, and some records are held at the County Archives Office in Duke Street, Chester. Telephone 01244 602574. Send me a PM if I can help.

As stated, SLG is a Cheshire reg no. it was used between October 1953 & December 1953. The bike could be a 1953 model or very early 1954. Most records survive, you have been given the local LRO, but they may close soon, in which case records may go to the Kithead trust archives..

Thanks guys. I'll give the county council a call. I'll report back here if I find anything interesting.

Would asking the DVLA (via a V888) yield anything of interest? Is the information they have worth a £5?

I don't suppose anyone reading this forum has actually owned this bike have they?

By the way, do the club hold any manufacturers records? It would be interesting to know what dealer my bike was sold by and I guess the factory records may show who they sent the bike to.

Thanks,

I've just found a recent ad for my bike where the seller claims it was recently owned by the previous AMOC president.

Who would that have been?

It would be good to have this part of the bikes history confirmed.
