I am trying to trace details of an AJS owned by a relative possibly in the 1940/50s in order to identify the gentleman in a photograph I found in my late grandmothers possessions (the photo shows him on an AJS with the number plate clearly visible).
Could you please help?

EA is a West Bromwich reg. no. that was in use for many years from 1904 onwards. Records from EA 2400 to 2999 only survive.
I would think this bike would be very early post WW1. circa 1920 being the 6 H.P. V twin model D AJS.
Interesting feature of this machine was rear suspension in the form of a pillar seat the stem of which sat on a spring.
If you look closely at the picture, just above the riders foot you can see two bracket's that holds the unit onto the down tube,
the pic below will show you what you cannot see, as its hidden behind the riders
