As above my text quoted by Al is correct, further more if its of interest. YUF was first used 1959 and must had been revearsed some time after 1995 and used as an age related number likewise XUR first issued 1956 and later revearsed and used as an age related number. AJA was first issued in 1936 and revearsed in 1960, so 839 AJA indeed a gen 1960 number

Just in case it has gone unnoticed. YUG for example is not an age related series number being first issued March 1957
YUG revearsed is the age related number series. Revearsed does really need to be stated or it gets confusing.
Gen reg YUG 123 , age related reg 123 YUG

Thanks Rob

Interesting stuff as I know nothing about old reg numbers apart from when I was in the motor trade years ago and suffix A was 1963, B 1964 etc, etc so could someone in the know work out that my bike, with a number 606 YUF, is indeed a 1960 machine and how long did/would YUF run for. Also how did you arrive at the "reversed sometime after 1995" bit . Just out of interest mine was re reg'd in October 2011 to it's current number

thanks for the info

I do not know it all Paul, but I have purcahsed many books I can refer to.
Reference from the books is acceptable proof by the DVLA. As to me stating " some time after 1995 " when refering to a set of letters, say ABC as being revearsed , this is because may latest book I am refering to was published in 1995. In the book there is no mention of the said letters being in use. The books will tell when ABC123 was first introduced and by which LVRO, sometimes the month, sometimes
which numbers went with it during the years it was in use, then list ABC 123 A and other years it was used, they may list "ABC revearsed" 123 ABC, but if I cant find this and it is use, it must had been introduced after my latest book was published.
