BPJ is a Surrey registration number that was only used from August to October 1934.
So it is not the original number for the bike.
What ever the original number was, it got lost or was transfered off the bike. BPJ seris not being used up, would had been used as a replacement age related number.
It could had been issued quite recently and be recorded by the DVLA at Swansea. This should at least show when the bike was issued the replacement number.Edited by - Rob Harknett on 09 Jun 2012 10:33:16 AM

PS. BPJ was reversed in 1956. ( numbers prefixed BPJ. I dont know if this means by 1956 all the BPJ seris to BPJ 999 was used up. If this was the case, then Surrey would have had records of when the bike got that number. Just checked. Surrey only saved their records up to 1945, which have now been archived in the Kithead trust archives.
