Front brake anchor steel?

Post by Adrian Pancaldi »

Hi all, I am just wondering if anyone knows if the chrome front brake anchors are simply mild steel or are they spring steel? I want to make one. I have seen an alloy one but tend to think, as with stainless, this could fatigue from load and fail.

Front brake anchor steel?

Hi Adrian, the anchors are of mild steel. I would'nt have thought that fatigue would be an issue with stainless, after all, most of the time it's under tensile stress, hope not as I made one for my G3. I bought a bike for restoration which had an aluminium rear brake stay, homemade by A.N.Other and on hard brake application when rolling back down a steep incline, it just folded up.
