I currently own a Japanese four but I am considering selling it and buying something classic.
Unforunately my budget is a bit limited (approx 1000 pounds).
I am handy with a set of spanners and can gain access to welding, lathes etc.
I would preferably like something about 500cc, I was wondering if maybe anyone could offer a bit of advice on what models of AJS (if any) I should be looking out for, and maybe warn me off anything that may prove to be very expensive to maintain.
I have very liitle knowledge of classic bikes, so its all a bit new to me.
many thanks

The range of AMC 500cc motorcycles is a good choice to enter the classic scene on. I would suggest you look through some classic bike mags like the old bike Mart to guage prices However If you are set on an AJS I would suggest you join the club As the club mag has an excellent for sale section and the Club spares scheme is first class.
It will also point out a local section where you may gain valuable advice / or support.

£1000 for an AMC 500 single sounds rather cheap to me, either you are going to get something that needs lots of work, or a bargain. Good luck
