Re: Smokes on tick over
Hi Ian
Is that when upright or leaning over on the side stand?
Blue or black smoke?
Monobloc or Concentric carb or the early one with separate float chamber?
(Not that I can offer much either way as when leaning on the side stand (monobloc) I think (temp brain fade) they tend to run weak not smokey rich).
See you on the section brunch run tomorrow?

Re: Smokes on tick over
when a engine is at idle with the throttle closed the inlet port downstream of the carb is under maximum depression , so its likely that the inlet valve guide is worn and you get oil down the guide . that's my theory
if you remove the carburetor you will probably see heavy sticky oil deposits on the valve head (tulip) . answer is new guide and valve
it probably does the same when throttle is close running down hill , then accelerating away another classic symptom of worn guides

Hmm, yes in retrospect it does sound like valve guide wear/over-oiling rather than carburation.willowbedone wrote: Oil smoke when on side stand it has a monoblock carburettor

Re: Smokes on tick over
Whenever I have a cylinder head apart I fit an oil seal on the inlet valve, not on the exhaust. I am not sure where the seals were stolen from as they are in a large box of ' bits that will come in handy one day'. I suspect Mini Cooper S or a Fiat.
