speedo fitting for veterans

Post by Michael Starr. »

I am searching for an appropriate speedometer for a 1929 Matchless. According to the sales catalogue of the time, you could either fit a front wheel-drive Bonniksen, or a gear-box driven Cowie or Smiths. The gearbox is a three-speed Sturmey-Archer. Can anyone tell me what the gearbox take-off would have been like? Cowie/Smiths speedo heads are available, but I do not know what to look for in terms of the drive.

Hi Mike, Easy answer is to get a copy of the appropriate Sturmey Archer illustrated spare parts list from the VMCC library. The VMCC library doesn't get anywhere near the publicity or use it deserves. Hope this helps. BOB

Hi Mike i have a 1930 Silver Arrow speedo drive off the bike at the moment if you would like to pop into Leicester UK anytime. I trust/presume this would be the same or similar as you are looking for. I am going to need a cable for mine any ideas anyone?
