Petrol Tap - PTFE Tape (Sorted Thanks)
I recently acquired a fuel tap and the instructions were to use PTFE tape and not to rely on the fibre washer. Can PTFE be used in this circumstance or does anyone have any other suggestions?
Cheers, Chris

It does work but you'd be better off with a Dowty washer (or both)

Also, new tap may leak, so soak it first in petrol or something. Taps may also leak if you have not used a bike for a while. If standing with no fuel in the tank.

Re: Petrol Tap - PTFE Tape
I have used PTFE tape, (both gas and water) on fuel taps and the tape melts after about a year and the taps start to leak.
I now use Loctite thread sealer and it seems to be still ok after a couple of years.

Only ever used the fibre washers and had no problems.
Unusually.

Myself also, seldom need to change them. Keep re using. You do need to make sure they are correct size etc.56G80S wrote:Only ever used the fibre washers and had no problems.

Re: Petrol Tap - PTFE Tape
I got some copper washers with a rubber insert in (like dowty washers but they are compressible) from Hitchcocks a few years back for my lightweight and they have never leaked since fitting them
